If a Kansas nurse misses their renewal deadline, their license will become inactive. Only an active license may be renewed, thus a license reinstatement is required.
LPNs and RNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two years for the Kansas nursing license renewal.

Your license will expire the last day of the month you were born, and you cannot practice in the state of Kansas.Â
To reinstate an expired license, you must fill out a reinstatement application on the KSBN Portal, submit proof of completed CEUs, and pay the required reinstatement fees.
For RNs and LPNs, the fees are $150 to reinstate a license with or without a temporary permit. For APRNs, there’s a $75 fee for reinstatement of a license without a temporary permit.
Most nurses will only need to have fulfilled their required 30 hours of continuing nursing education and have a valid method of payment ready.
You can check the status of your nursing licensure renewal application through the KSBN Portal. Nursing license lookups can be viewed on the KSBN verification website.
Yes. Each nurse is responsible for keeping records of continuing education completion, in case the Kansas Board of Nursing requests them. Nursing CE Central suggests keeping these records for a minimum of three years, should a nurse be selected for an audit.
